Sorry Temps, but these guys have the best answer.

However, if you truly wish to keep IE, a couple of suggestions:
1) Verify you are running the latest version of IE (check if there are any updates available)
2) Disable any addons you are using, then add them back (if you want to) over a series of days to see of one may be causing the issue
3) If all else fails, uninstall / reinstall IE

Good luck. :)

You can't really do this anymore, IE is too far embedded in Windows.

IE has made big strides, but it's still the least stable and most vulnerable of the major browsers on Windows. I highly recommend using other browsers such as Firefox or Chrome as your default browser, and only use IE for things that require it (which are typically in-house business apps and stuff).

Probably true - while I've never done a repeated uninstall update to see if a complete uninstallation can be done, you can roll back to the previous version, then update to current version again in order to troubleshoot.

Steps to roll back to a previous version here:

Note: If you have automatic updates turned on, Windows will re-install the latest version of IE the next time Windows Update runs.

Never had this particular problem before, but have had my browser hijacked. I have 3 computers at home (with Windows XP, 7, and 8 ), I use all 3 browser types too. I have Microsoft Security Essentials (free) on every computer, and regularly check all browser properties for rogue add-ons and trusted sites. Here is some diagnostic instruction that might help:

/wave Ylyrra we miss you. Hope all is well.

I would go with chrome as its synced with your gmail account, so all you have to do anywhere on any pc in the world is log in, and all your favorites and such is popped up. It is a life saver especially if your PC dies.

I used to love AVG (and I still use it) but they are getting a little overboard with how intrusive their antivirus is becoming... considering ditching them for something else.

Like Lorai, I use Microsoft Security Essentials on both of my computers - completely free.

Internet explorer (Version 10, and now 11) have been very buggy for me last 4-5 months, many more lock ups than normal. I blame the lockups on IE not playing nicely with the stuff I do to protect privacy, I block many cookies, use "Do not track me," etc.

HATE the tabbed browsing that IE 11 forces you to use and will likely migrate to Firefox, but keep putting it off.
