Oh WOW ES

Post by The_Old_Sakharra »

Holy crap.

I got nostalgic the last couple of days and started browsing around old EQ stuff, thinking it long dead. I never imagined EQ would still be kicking or that ES, one of my former guilds, not to mention former rivals and former allies would still be around. Even more shocking, names I recognize, some of us going back to Acropolis and Kunark. It is good to see you guys and good to see you still succeeding and doing things your way.

Whoever is doing your website now is freaking hilarious BTW.

Hmmm:

Sakharra is camped on one of the domes in Sleeper's Tomb. The whole stealth keying and raiding for primal under everyone's noses with PN blaming AS and vice versa for the clears, not to mention the post revamp server first raids, was a high point in EQ for me and it seemed fitting to leave her there when I camped for the last time. Wonder if she is still there or if Sony did a purge at some point...

I was going to stay in touch, but WTFSoup and Berthall both went down and I had a stint of working 3 jobs to make ends meet, and EQ faded from my mind. Not sure why I never came back to this forum, there was some bad blood with a few folks over Illumination and I wanted to fade quietly out I guess.

RL: Still in Houston, married, bought a house, all that stuff. Still hike and camp as often as possible, bagged my 3rd and 4th Colorado 14er and some of the Colorado Trail / CDT last week on vacation. Can't remember if I was smithing when I left EQ, but I've been blacksmithing as a hobby and at the Texas Renaissance Festival as a hobby for a number of years (yes, a few hobbyist are keeping the art alive, have the burns and scars to prove it is real).

I see Khazz, and Jisi among a lot of other names I recognize. Same players behind the toons?

Take Care y'all

Steve

We are still kickin and better than ever and we got to t4 before next expansion which is nice. Loot drops like candy from the 2 t2 zones, and if you started raiding again you'd get geared up fast. Your name sounds familiar, necro?

Servers were combined twice for many servers to help with population and it seems to be pretty steady now.
TP > Bert > MM

I was in The Ascended, Through the Never then ES. I was guilded in TA and TTN as Nadorn, my human sk.
TTN were rivals with ES for PoF named and i remember that like it was yesterday.

I remember chuubbs open raids in luclin and pop... fun stuff!

Hey Sak!

I'm in Texas now. Austin, actually. If you remember Alsmack at all, still the same player + character =)

Blacksmithing is pretty badass. It's a hobby I just don't have time for, but I think would be neat to do. Good to hear things are moving along for you.

Those you specified are the same players as before. many of us old farts are still around. If you camped Sakharra out on Sleeper's in all likelihood if you log back in, that is exactly where he will be. Good to hear you are doing well, been a long time.

also if you camped there but it's unsafe just hit the return home button on char select and you will return to your starting city.

Sak!! Really great to hear from you! You were actually brought up in conversation not too long ago, that I was having with Daarsa. I remember always asking you questions when I played my rogue, Raaven. Glad to hear life is being good to you, and yes still many familiar faces around! If you ever need to pick up an old hobby again.. drop in and say hello. :)

Sakharra! I was just thinking about you this week, Jisi started a new Acropolis channel, and it made me think of you, and others who were in our old Acrop channel (the channel of my infamous pizza mistell...). Then I come here and click on General and there you are! Kinda freaky... Thanks for the update tho, satisfies my curiosity nicely :)

I retired in 2006, then last year SoE sent me an email they had re-activated my account for free for a month. I logged in, Lorai was just as I left her, still tagged in the ES guild hall, and ES was going strong...as awesome and stable as ever. So I started playing again, found it fun again--even more fun and progressive than before actually... It did not take too long for me to level-up from 65, I bet you're even higher level than that, it seems you kept playing after I retired.

That would be very kewl if you log back in and start to play again, and bring your wife too!

And I am still in Lubbock :?

Oh, and my scandanavian ancestors were blacksmiths. My norwegian last name translates as "blacksmith in the valley".

Wow lots of folks!

Lorai, wow, I stayed in Lubbock Sunday night when we were driving back from CO. We iron-manned it on the way up and didn't feel like doing it on the way back down. I retired sometime in late 2005 or the very beginning of 2006 right after we finished up DON so Sakh is 70 IIRC. Very cool on the blacksmith ancestors, I did a bunch of genealogy stuff a while back, we were mostly shipbuilders with one branch of the family having a bad habit of winding up on the losing side of civil wars (Holland, US).

Most of the stuff we use is over 100 years old, my anvil and vice were both made in 1908. The one we use at TRF is 1880s, just really cannot get the stuff new anymore.

Anatole and Khaz: Life is indeed good lately for some reason, better than I deserve perhaps. Had some rough times for a bit, so I keep waiting for the hammer to drop, but I'm enjoying the ride while it lasts. Good to see both of you! Old friends and my wizzy mentors during my short and often very flat and bloody attempts to learn to quad kite on Ezakra.

Sunnie: I found the pics, your kids are going up and look great! Great to see you still around. I probably have logs with some of those rogue conversations somewhere, I'll have to dig. I think I have some Acro and ES guildchat logged someone in one of the archives on one of the old computers. If I do decide to drop in, I'll say hi for sure.

Side note:

Maybe I should find and destroy the Acrop logs, haha they could be damaging to someone's future political career. I remember a couple of recruits guildremoving after our late night guildchat turned kind of fetishy / weird during the Alcoholopolis days (as if that was uncommon). ES was much more family friendly.

Side note II:

I'm afraid to ask how I came up in conversation. Some things best unknown!

Hey Beornj (Pally?) I remember you and good to see you too.

I remember Alsmack quite well actually, hope Texas is treating you good. We run a couple smithing classes a year right outside of San Antonio in Seguin so if you ever want to get your feet wet and try it, get in touch. We provide all the steel and tools you need for the class, all folks need is natural fiber clothing (jeans and a cotton T are fine), safety glasses and some sort of leather shoe or boot (closed toe). I worked in flip flops once, a piece of slag or scale between the toes really sucks.

EDIT: Add high pain tolerance to that list of things people need. You absolutely will burn yourself once or twice and likely nail yourself with a hammer. I've done both, while doing live demos.

Eatmice23, I remember you as Nadorn, I think we grouped a couple of times and I rarely grouped out of guild except during rogue takeovers of the Sebilis AOE areas (snicker). I always liked SK tanks because I could completely open up without pulling agro.

EDIT: Now googling to see if anyone has EQ running under Linux.

That's really cool Sak. I may have to check that out next year some time - pretty booked up for the rest of this year. There a website I can bookmark?

I've used the airport down near Seguin plenty of times (I fly planes for fun), and it's not a far drive either since I live as far south in Austin as you can get.

Haha don't tell me that old argument is still going on... As a grouping rogue I always like hybrid tanks better if they had approximately equal gear and a clue. If they didn't have a clue, I'd spam evade and make it a bad night for the group's wizard :)

No website I'm afraid for the smithing stuff. We usually pick up more students than we can handle at TRF, especially since we added some basic blade work in. Some of the survivalist types are interested in it now because it would be a decent tradable skill WTSHTF. I know what you mean about booked, this is my last free weekend until sometime in January, gotta get the booth ready, then TRF, until Thanksgiving, holiday stuff, new years... Chelle and I don't get to breathe between Sept and Feb usually.

Hi. I don't remember you, but I was in Essence of Darkness when Waldoo came back for a while. Maybe you remember me, as I am a Tholuxe server chicky from 2001. SK My hubby is Antionious, a wizard. Nice to see old players coming to say hi.
