For some reason the last week or so I am getting TERRIBLE latency while playing everquest. I have no problems in any other games or websites that I visit. This is internet lag and not video lag. Im using my laptop which is an Alienware M17x R2. My internet connection is a usb modem connected through Verizon. I manually set up my connection to only connect 3G or 4G depending on my location.
Any ideas?
=)

If you pre ordered VoA you are probably downloading the expansion in the background while playing.

To expand on what beo said you can test this theory.
Don't launch EQ with the launcher, which will download in the background.
open up run and do the following
c:\path\to\eq\eqgame.exe patchme
this will skip all patchers. make sure you replace "path\to\eq" with where the game is installed.
make sure sony launcher is running in the background also.
If you're not laggy there, then EQ patcher is saturating your connection and causing the latency.
If you're still laggy, the troubleshooting must continue.

I tried this and it did not work. I monitored my Tx and Rx speed. for the most part my Tx never gets over 4k just playing EQ and my Rx doesnt get much more over 6k. In any other game or while i am surfing the web it really kicks up in speed, into the megabytes in throughput. For some reason Everquest is choked off and nothing else is. I disabled my firewall to see if that would make a difference and it does not.
grrrrr

What operating system are you using?
Is it a new install of EQ, or an old install that use to run ok, but now is slow?
Any other changes to computer at same time EQ started to run slow?
Can you run other graphic intensive games ok? Though you say it is internet lag and not vido lag, sometimes it is hard to tell.

The problem went away for 5 days and then came back. It happened before VoA, went away, and now is a current problem.
I had not made any changes to the computer at all.
I have an alienware M17x R2 laptop computer. 6 Gig of ram, Geforce video card.
The problem is not video lag. I can play other graphically intense games with no problem. I do not have any problem with any other online game.
I just connected at my mothers house and I have the same problem, so it is not Verizon Wireless like I originally thought.
Something is choking down my throughput to the everquest servers and it seems to be a problem with my region or my computer itself. I am getting 8-10k throughput while playing when it should be 20k or better (receive rate).
Im probably just going to re-download EQ.
Bah.
=(

If you are connecting via 4G/3G it sounds like your account is being throttled. The analogy is what you touched on-your pipeline is being choked! Perhaps a call to the provider is in order to verify what is happening with your account. At least they can help you know for certain even if they won't do anything about it (perhaps you will need to upgrade your usage per month to avoid being throttled?)TNT-Sweeper wrote:Something is choking down my throughput to the everquest servers and it seems to be a problem with my region or my computer itself=(
