The gentleman that made this game started taking orders through Paypal a couple years ago. He made so much money so fast that Paypal froze his account!

This game is called Minecraft.

Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens.

You can play without monsters in Peaceful Mode. You can play Single-Player or play Multiplayer. The crafting combines aren't very difficult but collecting the ingredients can be.

Each world is your own... it is randomly generated or can be 'seeded' with a code that allows two different players to play the exact same world. Other than randomly generated NPC villages and strongholds with dungeons, there are no other 'man-made' structures. Everything you see here is player-made.

The lighting engine is top of the line and overshadows the game's blocky look. Each block represents 1 meter.

Yes-that was a 1:1 model of the Starship Enterprise D from Star Trek.

It can be modified extensively and the creator has added quite a few features that started as community modifications.

People have created functioning emulators of Frogger, a 16-Bit CPU and GPU with screen, entire cities, roller coasters, you name it.

The game is still in Beta, but since the code freeze the release date of Nov. 28th seems solid. Bethesda Software sued the creator's company over a trademark name for an unrelated future game.

I've been along for most of the ride and this is what I play when I want to unwind fishing or farming... or scare my own pants off with spooky monsters. Although it can never replace the complexity of a game like EQ, this is, in my humble opinion, one of the best computer games ever made. The demo is Creative Mode. Try it out sometime.

That's a mighty big post about this silly game.

I used to play it a bunch but I'm bored of it now.

Yeah, I know what you mean. If you never bought a license you can only play an old build of creative mode.

As of late, there is now:

A craftable enchanting table from difficult to find parts as well as bookcases...
A craftable potion stand + splash potions,
Many more types of 'ore' including clay, glowstone and lapis lazuli,
Animals can be bred, sheep wool can be dyed,
Trainable wolves that act like EQ pets on aggro,
Fish to catch with fishing pole + squid,
More recipes and more food ingredients,
The Aether (think heaven),
The Nether (think hell),
Many new mobs including the (Sl)enderman,
Powered minecarts using redstone,
Pistons + Dispensers + Music Boxes,
More biomes including a swamp and a mushroom land,
AI and aggro adjustments (i.e. once day breaks, non-aggro spiders become scared of you),
A refined lighting system that makes it less likely you will need OMGTORCHESEVERYWHERE in your house,
More music, beds to pass night to day,
NPC villages, randomly generated ravines, deserted strongholds and more dungeons, and
Achievements and a hunger meter.

Oh yeah-you also gain experience killing mobs that you can cash in for enchantments at your table.

...and there is a critical hit system included that rewards jump strikes and (double-tap w) sprint attacks with more experience. You may now also block by click/holding RMouse like in Morrowind.

...and you can repair tools by combining them through craft.

That's pretty much what I can think of or have heard about and not seen. Knowing Notch from reading his blog posts, I wouldn't be suprised if there are more features in the final build than he is letting on.

So conceivably one could have a guild on a multiplayer server world. Guildies collect ore and craft weapons and armor. When it's time for a dungeon run, you have archers (bow and arrows), warriors (armor/swords), and alchemists (splash potions). The support staff could be architects, crafters, farmers, trappers, and enchanters.

Weeping Angels Mod

Torches much?

I'll add some photos to the thread as I go along. I've added an attic to my house and a timberland. I've also gotten up the nerve to go down below ground. This is the perfect game to play around Halloween. As I write this, Minecraft has just rolled over 3.9 million sales. I bought when it was 10 Euro... now it is $21.95USD.

Also this in Spring 2012-
