What to do....

Post by Eatmice23 »

I recently bought another account and transfered nadorn to it to 2 box and what not. Takes me forever to load and zone, very laggy, reset device failure alot (i use windowed mode) client crash more often. what im trying to say it i cant 2 box this way. I've had this computer made for gaming about 5-6 years ago. i dontr remember the video card(gives you a hint of how old my card is). i believe i have 1 gig of ram. so i guess my question is, should i get more gig or a new video card or both? or maybe i new PC....

thanks.

Two boxing eats up RAM, it is another instance of the game running, so you are outstripping your current RAM and it is caching to your hard disk (it is slow). Two boxing can impact your video card usage, more so depending on how you play.

Your options:

1. Just buy more RAM, go to 2 gig, see what happens. If it does not help, go to another option.

2. Buy RAM and Video Card upgrade. Your graphics slot is probably an AGP, so you need to make sure you get a card that fits in that slot. You will find less selection and and possibly less value going with an AGP video card, this is something you want to buy on-line and do some research. Do not get a super duper high end card needing lots of power, you will then probably be forced to upgrade your power supply and this will make you want to go to option 3.

3. Buy/build a new PC. If your PC is 5-6 years old, even a low end PC will be noticibly better (but who wants a low end PC? Go for the best!). Keep in mind that it is not hard to build one now days.

yeah i had mine built for gaming for a friend from TTN. Anyone here want to build one for me? name a price and maybe i'll consider it. But more ram will be tried first, i have alot of empty slots in my computer for ram and what not. Will try my best to figure out the problem, and i heard running windowed mode slows pc down alot too. im just not that computer savy.

i would not run a PC with out at least 4gb of memory; if your using a 64bit i would even go up to 8gb. EQ will suck the memory fast.

i can run 3 accounts at once with 4gb of memory with no issue. think i have only had 1 crash total. if you really want to custom build a PC i say suck it up and build it yourself its really not that hard. if i can do it anyone here can! its knowing what to put in it that is the trick! we have 6 PCs in the house and each were custom built by me and my boyfriend but i do all the picking of parts....

if you need any help let me know

I use wineq an can 2 box pretty good since it does not allow EQ to suck all the resources from your comp like normal I can only 2 box with 1 gig but do not have issues with lag

wineq is a 3rd party program written way back before EQ could be in window mode. It was the only way to multi box back then.

I also use it even if I am not 2 boxing; if you want to give it a shot let me know I can upload it and give you a secure download site. It still uses a ton of resources but not as much as normal EQ.

How old is your PC? If you were to build a new one do you have a budget in mind? Do you use it for more then just EQ?

You want about 1.5 GB of RAM per EQ instance.

Since your PC is that old, you're probably better off getting a whole new system for $400 or so (or better if you can afford it). 5-6 years is still forever in PC time. CPU's have fallen off of Moore's law, but GPUs (more important) have surpased it.

Moore's law says performance will double every 18 months. If your system is 6 years old, a similar current model from today would be about 16 times as powerful. You can scrimp on the CPU to save money, but don't on the GPU.

When I started 2-boxing (dual core 2.8, 2 gig ram, 1 gig vram) I had some issues until I installed the 2nd eq on a 2nd hard drive. That really sped things up for me anyway.

walmart has nice computer systems for the 600~ range, i think total i paid 700 for mine, and mine is

tri core 2.2ghz
6 gigs of ram
ati radeon hd3200, not the best but it gets the job done

I 3 box on this computer

oh, and if you can do this

going to quote myself
alt + o and go into display, go into advanced options and turn off enable post effects and turn off enable bloom lighting...

and turning off alot of that stuff will help as well
Now for a more advanced lesson in making your computer run faster do this

start ---> type in MSCONFIG in the search button in the start area..

once that pops up

go to services tab

do this exactly how i say it, if you dont I hold no responsibility to your computer messing up.

make sure the box *hide all microsoft services* is checked, once that is checked, you can turn off ALL that crap, and your computer will still run, now click apply, then go to the start up tab

you can turn off everything in the startup tab, and then click apply and restart your computer

the first time it might restart alittle slower, but i promise this makes every and all computers run faster, for me anyways.
