Downloading eq question.
So i think i remember downloading eq into the program files is bad...do i just create a folder and download it to there? Could be wrong but i thought i heard that from someone. Any suggestions?
My EQ is in Program Files, no problems here.

In XP it doesn't matter. Vista and later protect that area from user-data writes and expect applications to not store their settings etc. with the program binary.

I run Vista and my directory is C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest...
Still no issues.

Yeah, the first time I ever had trouble with it was in 7. Even now I keep it in program files for ease, but just mirrored it through the games folder and run it through there. No problems yet on this install after a couple months.beornj wrote:I run Vista and my directory is C:\Program Files\Sony\Everquest...

Here's a short article about the virtual store and how it can cause you trouble:

I just always copy my EQ directory to C:\Sim\EQ (sim was for simulations way back) when setting up a new system. If you right-click "run as administrator" on everquest.exe or a link to it in that directory, it will automatically download and install the launcher, which works just fine under "C:\Program Files", but still run the game from C:\Sim\EQ (along with all of the .ini files which are the real issue here).
