Have you checked your HOST file?

Usually located at:

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS

Open it in notepad, make sure it only has

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1 localhost
in it.

Some spyware is just stupid and changes that on people and would add like some random ip for yahoo and google and such.

I use ad-aware. the free version and scan my pc once in a while. Good freebie program that does not load a bunch of junk on your machine and it does not run in the background. The profile is kept up to date and catches most of the adware, hijackers etc. It won't detect worms, many viruses.

It also will spit out a list of cookies, you probably want to delete most of the cookies it lists, but some you may want to keep for sites you frequent.
