It's not a rumor. SoE has taken over Vanguard. All Sigil employees were fired. Some were immediately rehired by SoE, however. This has apparently been in the works for a considerably long time.
May of those of us who play are hopeful this will be a beneficial thing for Vanguard and are taking a wait and see attitude. It is still a fun game to play, at least for me. It just has many kinks that need working out. Hoepfully within SoE's stable, it will finally have the manpower and funding necessary to work out those kinks.
At this point, the only thing that would drive me away is if SoE starts cranking out expansion pack after expansion pack in rapid succession like they did with Everquest. That was a major factor in what sent me packing from EQ after so many years. And now I see you have another coming out late this year.

However, they figured out that they need to have one big expansion that works in a year, not 2 halfway expansions with lots of bugs. At least thats the theory that was put out by SOE when the announced the November expansion. If SoE kept to business as usually the next expansion 6 month release point would have been Septemberish....
