wav files

Post by Laleldil »

Well made a bunch of wave files and guess what? When I emailed them to my home email address and tried to download them individually, Vista did not recognize .wav as a valid format. When I used the winzip to attempt to circumvent that, WinZip has already expired. I have had this computer 50 days now.

My last attempt will be to put them on a thumb drive and try it that way as individual files. Probably will not work. If it does not, and no one can get me through this, I reckon it is time to take the computer to BestBuy and return it for some work or whatever.

Yeah I am about finished fighting to get the system to work.

I'm not sure what you mean by "doesn't recognize .wav as a valid format". By default, that file type should be associated with Windows Media Player. If something else installed on your system has changed the associations, you can easily fix it. Right-click on a file and select "Open With", then choose media player and check "always use this program to open files of this type".

Zip functionality is built into both XP and Vista, you really don't need to buy or add Winzip IMO.

How are you creating these files? Depending on the program you're using to create them, you may need a special CODEC to play them back. As I think about this, I'm guessing that's your problem. I'll bet they're not vanilla .WAVs but are made with some special non-standard CODEC. If that's the case, you'll need to install that CODEC on your Vista machine to be able to play them.

I just get "Audrey" from the AT&T research site to voice my audio triggers and save the files directly. Those work fine in EQ.

Not real sure directly atm what windows this laptop is running but it appears to be an XP version. I used the links that Ylyrra and someone else later had provided. And this windows plays them fine. Ylyrra's link is in the thread Yroc created and has all those many audio links. It is right after his opening uhm thing. I thought of that idea of which program to open it with, but right clicking in Vista only gives me 6 choices and only one of them sounds remotely like a audio player. sounds more like an audio/video player. It appears to be a windows vista media player and being windows i thougth ith would play the .wav file but would not. Gave me a fancy screen and fancy moving pictureless picture, but no sound.

I tried using audio recorder on the vista machine, and altho it recognises a microphone in the microphone jack, there appears no way to save the file and I never hear myself talking coming from the computer.

Mic works fine on the other computer in TS.

Anyway, if I don't log on very soon after work, I imagine it will be trying to get some kind of audio trigger files created.

Did I mention I hate Vista, Best Buy and Acer?!

grr working with this I should change my signature :(
