New Computer

Post by calarea »

We have been looking hard at Cyber Power PC for our computer purchase.

Has anyone ever heard or had dealings with them?

We didn't really want a Big Box Store computer ie. HP, Dell, Gateway or Compaq.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

Our budget is around $1500.00 give or take a few hundred.

Thank you kindly

Dear Laura,

I am in no way a computer wizard. I purchased a dual processor with 2gig ram 300 something HD, integrated video card with 256mb dedicated and 256 shared ram, Acer computer with Windows Vista installed, and complimentary virus, I mean antivirus Norton's.

DO NOT DO THAT. DO NOT DO THAT!

If that is not clear: DO NOT DO THATinderstand?

I now have hardware faults about once every two weeks, I crash to server select on the average of every 5 zonings, sometimes 2-3 times a zone and zone after zone, some times not all night.

I do not believe a dual processor will do you any good unless you know how to force the computer to use a processor for some things and EQ all by itself on the other.

NO ONE knows how to play with VISTA and certainly not EQ. Add the happy Norton's, even complimentary, no do not use ever, version, you can spend days trying to get EQ on your computer, even doing a file transfer.

I have no good suggestions except stay away from VISTA

as always it will take 6 months to a year normally for the devil (microsoft) to work out their bugs.

I know it probably sounds like selling out but the big box names are good ways to go. I really like Dell. in my experience they are affordable, high power, and their tech support is awesome.

I agree with Lale. small names are just trouble.

If you have the means and the know how, as always the very best way to get what you want is to build it yourself.

Make sure they do not have Vista or Norton's on it.

Best thing I can suggest is to find someone local and get a personal one built for you. 3/4 of the time if its local you can alway go to them to get it fixed way faster than having to deal with tech and since they built it they can usually troubleshoot it much faster. That what I wouold have done if I didnt know how to build them myself..

After some thought and shopping around we are toying around with the idea about building one. Cybor PC's price is around $1600.00 and gettng prices from Tiger and newegg we can have the same machine for about $1100.00. Is it worth atempting to build one?
We did go to a couple local small computer shops to see what they would charge us to build one and they were around $2k.

Is this a good case, mb, psu and c2d?

My Dad has helped me build all of my computers, and when I finally get to a point where it's financially feasible to build a new one, I think I will be doing it on my own, since I now live 300 miles away from him! As long as you know people you can talk to or have help you put it together, it's not impossible to do it yourself. Most parts come with instruction manuals that should tell you where to stick what.

And I prefer to use AMD over Intel as a personal preference, but the items you've picked out look just fine to me. Should be an awesome machine.

Good luck :)

great choice to do it yourself.

I like both AMD and pentiums. AMD are usually a little easier on your pocket.

Don't forget that unless you have something you can use already you will need to buy an OS.

AMD tends to be more reliable. I like them too.

I built my own computer about 5 years ago and every part was easily replacable and/or upgradable. That's the part I like the best.

To this day, I already replaced my ethernet card twice (lost one in storm, other just failed.) upgraded my RAM chips, bought a new video card and altogether with the computer itself and the upgrades/replacements. I probably only paid about 1300 total and it's just about as good as the newest computer out there.

Looks like an awesome set of stuff. The 680i is top of the line. You don't need the add-in sound card. The built-in HDAudio is fine.

Compare your prices with these two online shops:

www.newegg.com

and

www.zipzoomfly.com

And also, am not getting any errors using Vista.
