Windows XP Settings

Post by Laleldil »

Ok, I caught a portion of something that may improve game play / lag. It had to deal with setting Windows XP to not be so memory intensive. Something about changing some settings that deals with xp display? Perhaps that discussion could be redone here in print so I can log into here and do the process on my computer. Would be nice not to have to either be infront of the raid, directly in back of the raid (looking away from raid), or the sides and staring at the wall. Also Devastation? seems to be real laggy when I need face the center. So any help here in limiting some of this lag would help me look less the fool of not being able to simply follow a group across an open area with a few rocks and dips.

Here are two nice EQ-performance hints. One for XP and one for EQ.

In XP, under System Properties->Advanced->Performance Options->Advanced
In the "Processor Scheduling" section, select "Background services" instead of programs. That way, when you window out of EQ, it won't bring your system to its knees.

In EQ under display settings set your frame rate limiter to 30. This makes a huge difference in how "smooth" your system is under varying conditions. Otherwise, it just draws as many FPS as it possibly can in all circumstances. 30FPS is plenty for EQ since there's no real-time targetting needed.
