I have to quit.

Post by Thornbow »

I had enough trouble just keeping up with everybody. Seems like the mobs were already below 50% by the time I targeted them and was able to attack. It's tough playing with Parkinson's Disease. Your fingers stiffen up, and its like you're tapping the keyboard with balled up fists. There's no denying the bradykinesia (slowness of movement) that makes it a challenge to drag your mouse cursor across the screen, and that pales next to the fear of bradyphrenia (slowness of thought) which might indicate the onset of Lewy Body Dementia. There are other symptoms that make it hard to play. I have a Deep Brain Stimulator which controls the worst of the tremors, but I'd still occasionally double tap without meaning too. An overactive bladder had me going to the bathroom every 20 minutes. The loss of my voice was also a big downer for me. The stiffness of my muscles causes my lips to form a rictus, my tongue doesn't curl around the words correctly, and my breathing causes me to trail off breathlessly in mid word. I was sensitive about my voice, and reluctant to join team speak, even at the cost of seeming anti social.
But for all that I was willing to keep trying. That changed Sunday night. I missed the raid that evening. Just didn't feel up to it. Climbing the single flight of stairs in my house left me light headed, dizzy and short of breath. The walls of my chest were painfully tight. I went to the emergency room the next day where they found massive blood clotting in my lungs. The CT scan showed more clot than lung. The ER folks performed a suction thrombectomy; shooting a catheter up my femoral artery, running it down through the chambers of my heart and into my lungs, where they sucked out all the clot they could find. After that I spent two nights in the hospital on a Heparin drip, and will probably spend the rest of my life on Eliquis or some other blood thinner. The doctors said one thing that causes blood clots is physical inactivity. I would have thought that the overactive bladder that comes with Parkinson's be enough to keep the blood from pooling in my legs and forming clots, but not anymore.
So I have to quit. My apologies for wasting your time, and my gratitude for the groups and raids which allowed me to see more of the end game content than I ever would have on my own. Take care of your own healths, and be sure to get up out of your chairs every thirty minutes or so. If you see me again, it will be an indication of how weak willed I am. My New Year's resolution went from getting all my trade skills above 300 to never logging in to any computer game again.

Sincerely, Thornbow

Sorry to hear about your health problems. :( We'll keep the light on in case you feel like playing again when you feel better.

Just a thought but they make these under desk bicycle pedal things so you can exercise while seated.
