Monitor advice
My old LCD monitor is beginning to experience some image retention effects, so I am shopping to replace it. Looking for LED backlit LCD. My other monitor that is still relatively new is a Dell S2740. The one I am looking at replacing the old monitor with is Asus K278Q.
My desktop setup doesn't currently have a webcam, so I like that feature on this Asus.
Thoughts?

Using an ASUS 27" 2560 x 1440 ~ $500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824236294 with an old crappy 24" as my reference monitor next to it.
I like to code so having a lot of vertical space / pixels was important to me.
When I purchased mine the 4K ( 3820 x 2160 ) panels were still $3k+. If I were purchasing a new display I would be tempted to pick up one of those. I use one a work and they are great for coding once you get used to it.
For example:

ASUS version +$150 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824236399

Wow Rapi - those 4K's do look nice. I may put that on my wish list for after I graduate in the spring (and have a job!).
My setup is such that I have a 24" monitor on my left (the one I'm replacing), a 27" on my right and about a 12 inch gap in between. The gap is so I can see my TV across the room periodically and rest my eyes (TV is probably 20ish feet away).

39" LED Hisense and other non-popular brands for $139
Saw the 39" LED from Hisense on Sale for $139, 1080 pixels, and also some for 720 pixels, with free shipping at tigerdirect.com
It was over 15 years ago that I bought something from tigerdirect but they sent me a damaged high tower PC case, but they never replaced it so I haven't bought anything from them since then. It's like once you get burned, you never want to or would hesitate to buy or get involved again.

The rumor I've heard is that 4K monitor prices are expected to decrease dramatically over the next few months.
That should bring all the others down too.

Research carefully if you are planning on buying a Samsung Monitor. In the last few years of their monitor production runs, Samsung decided to "go cheap" on the capacitors in the 20 to 30 inch monitors. Each monitor has anywhere from 4 to 6 capacitors. By going cheap, the capacitors referenced above will overheat and "bulge" overtime. This will result in a display that will periodically cut-out ( go dark ) and flicker.
For anyone who has experienced this problem with a Samsung monitor in the last few years, it is repairable with a kit you can buy on-line (includes a set of good quality capacitors), a good soldering iron, and a steady hand. Just be careful...for the earlier models, you have to make sure the capacitors are fully discharged before doing any work.

No I am not using it with a second monitor, as its damn near like having 2 monitors in 1. I personally love it, I cannot complain.Rapitiss wrote:Tats - how do you like the ultra wide? AOC 27"
Picked up an AOC 27" about a month ago. Not too expensive, & working great so far.
