Don't Call it a Comeback!

Post by abstol mezumall »

I been here for years!

But actually I've decided to come back and start playing EQ again. I've been lurking the boards here and there since I stopped playing a few years and it's nice to see A LOT of familiar names still.

I ordered a new PC yesterday and it should be here at the end of June so I'm trying to get a plan in place to level up to 100 as quickly as possible.

Abs currently is level 85 with about 1k AA's so I know I have a ton of work to catch up, but that's ok. Mainly just excited to get back playing

I wanted to get everyone input on this Heroic Character thing. Should I do it for abs. I've been looking at everyones gear, and dear lord. I know the heroic won't put me anywhere close to raid level gear, but it's much better than what he currently is wearing.

My only concern is I'm confused on the AA thing. Is it capped or what's the deal with that. I plan on getting a gold????? account. Is it worth the Heroic Character just for the flags/keys or am I better off just trying to catch up the old fashion way?

Anyways I'm sure I'll have more questions as I continue to read up on the new expansions. Look forward to chatting with everyone again.

Don't bother with the heroic character.

You'll replace all the gear by level 92.

You get the AAs for free just by being Gold and choosing to opt-in to the AA Grant.

You're already 85.

The only thing you get by becoming Heroic is immediate decent gear for level 85. You can get to 92 in a long and busy weekend and deck yourself out in ROF T1 gear bought in the bazaar or gotten from drops.

edit: If you wanted to be something other than an enchanter, then by all means, now is the perfect time to heroic up one and level to 100 real quick.

Smack is right, you won't get much by doing the Heroic thing. Heroic characters start at lvl 85 - you're already there. It's only the gear that would be better and it's not worth it to go Heroic just for the gear.

If I remember correctly, the fastest way to level up is doing the missions - they give the best experience over just grinding. And I think the auto-grant feature for AA should give you plenty of missing AA.
Our current plan is to automatically grant AAs up to four expansions behind the current expansion, if the player opts to do so. Clicking a checkbox in the AA window will enable the granting option and any eligible AAs will be applied the next time the character zones or levels. The option can be disabled at any time if you no longer wish to receive granted AAs, though any AA received via auto-granting will be retained should you decide to later disable this functionality.

Characters that wish to take advantage of the experience bonus for low-AA count will want to do so before enabling the auto-grant option, as any AA received via auto-granting will count against the bonus. At higher levels, the auto-granted AA could completely exhaust the bonus experience.
My recommendation is to wait on using the auto grant feature and take advantage of the experience bonus for low AA count to get your important AA's from the last 3 expansions before claiming the auto grant. It won't help for AA's that are added on from expansion to expansion, but it will cut out some time at least.

Ditto what ylyrra said.

The auto grant gets you all AA up through underfoot, which means you can be severly gimped on the stuff introduced in HOT/VOA/ROF/COTF. I would log in, get some help to 100 and earn at least another K in AA, focusing on maxing out specific lines introduced at 100 or that culminate in ROF. Then, you can auto-grant AA and get a few thousand AA that will boost alot of the non-critical stuff.

AA slows WAYYYY down after 4K, so you want to make sure you have all the really important stuff before the auto-grant puts you over the 4K threshhold.

Only do a heroic character if you plan a character change.

To put some perspective on this, you can still get 30aa/hr easy past 4k (maybe even double that in a good, high dps, fast group). I get ~30aa/hr lazily doing Dead Hills Heroic Adventures. But a lot of higher end stuff costs 12-15 AA per rank.
