Tired of Comcast

Post by Antionious »

Got an ad for Dish Network today was wondering how thier internet speeds are good for gameing. Anyone useing this type of Internet would like to know how well it works for u. Or if it just sucks for playing EQ .

satellite broadband has good speeds, but there is a downside, upload speed is very slow, and there is a 0.7 second lag between the earth and the satellite, it can be done, but you have to take the lag into account, there's not much you can do about it. some folks adjust to it well in eq, others i have seen do not.

Niz and I had satellite from Hughesnet back in NY and it was so terrible for gaming that we basically stopped playing altogether for the last few years. Maybe Dish Network is better than what we had, I dunno.. but the lag time made me absolutely worthless as a healer since spells took forever to refresh.

EQ doesn't play well with latencies >400ms roughly. I can play fine on cellular, but only if it's a good connection. I wouldn't even want to imagine playing on highly latent satellite connection.

I never had Dish Network for my internet but I do have Direct TV for my tv which bundles with Verizon DSL. I definatly noticed a difference from Comcast speed, but I also noticed a difference from Comcast Price and for the price I'm happy. And if you're a sports fan I'd highly suggest Direct TV over Dish Net. I can also save you 10 bucks month for 10 months if you use me as a reference, and no, I'm not trying to seel Direct TV for a referrel, I actually just upgraded my whole house to HDTV with them and did a 2 year renewal, I really do like the service.
