Black and Tan

Post by Iane_Blaidd »

Black and Tan is a drink made from a blend of Bass and Guinness (2 Irish beers).

Before there was the drink this term Black and Tan referred to the British "police" that occupied Ireland.

Even though Irish Pubs in the US created this drink; i would not recommend trying to order one in a pub in Ireland!

figured i would include an "old" Irish rebel song about this..

Actually, Bass is an English ale. Its red triangle logo was Britain's first registered trademark. (Just a little bit of trivia for you all.) For a 100% Irish black and tan, or half and half as its sometimes called, I would suggest using Harp Lager instead. :D

The Pogues are playing in New York on St. Patricks Day. I really have to stop working and start playing. I missed them in Vienna in 1993, now this is the last day they will ever play in the U.S. Makes me want to give up a job ... just this once.

I like the way that the guiness swirls down into the bass ale after you pour it. Totally kewl.
