EQ lag on desktop

Post by aenil »

About 6-7 months ago I started having huge lag spikes on my desktop when I am playing EQ so I switched to playing on my laptop with no problems. Now I have to send my laptop in to have it fixed (it's under warranty so it's free) and I am trying to get this lag to quit. I ran a virus scan in safe mode and it removed a trojan virus which who knows where it came from my wife uses this and downloads a bunch of crap for her camera. I updated all the drivers on my desktop but still no help. Any ideas? Here is the desktop I have:
HP-Pavilion NY464AA-ABA p6130y
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor: AMD Phenom 9750 Quad Core Processor 2.40 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
I did run the windows experience option which rates your performance and I got a 2 on graphics. I updated my drivers with no success though of getting above a 2.

Updated my drivers on my graphics card and got it up to a 4.4. Which is still no where near as good as everything else. I think all the rest is above a 7. Still didn't help the lag though.

Graphics card is GeForce 9100

It could be either your firewall or your antivirus causing issues, examining every packet, etc. Might want to try disabling both when playing EQ only.

Antivirus wreaks havoc with EQ pretty often. I'd make sure your everquest directory is excluded in your AV real-time protection.

Now for a more advanced lesson in making your computer run faster do this

start ---> type in MSCONFIG in the search button in the start area..

once that pops up

go to services tab

do this exactly how i say it, if you dont I hold no responsibility to your computer messing up.

make sure the box *hide all microsoft services* is checked, once that is checked, you can turn off ALL that crap, and your computer will still run, now click apply, then go to the start up tab

you can turn off everything in the startup tab, and then click apply and restart your computer

the first time it might restart alittle slower, but i promise this makes every and all computers run faster, for me anyways.
