Ever had car insurance trouble?

Post by Ubdaien »

So I got a note a couple months ago saying that the dmv had no record of my maintaining vehicle insurance for june, and that I had a certain period to respond that I maintained my insurance. If I didn't my registration was to be axed.
So I did. Information given they said they had to contact travelers to have travelers send them info that proved I had insurance. I get another mail a month later saying 'No response from insurance company.' My insurance was going to be suspended on the 23rd. So I get in touch with my insurance company on the 4th of september. Enough time for them to fix this right? Almost 3 weeks? They call the DMV and say they made arrangements to have the info sent to them. I call them and find out my registration is now suspended. Naturally when this is all fixed I have to deal with reinstating the registration.

Question is now.... Who has to pay for this? State? The Insurer? Should I even bother talking to travelers this time or call the insurance comissioner in vegas? DMV gave me the number for them. I have never lapsed in my insurance.

I cant drive legally right now...least not in my own car because of it.. blah....

I assume that your car insurance company is required to provide proof of insurance to the state, at least when queried.

I would blame the insurance company, and demand they pay to fix this. If it is found that the state is at fault and they lost their records, have them waive their fees to reinstate registration.

The state could of messed up, I know Florida DMV has. When you bring a vehicle into Florida, there is a one time fee you need to pay the first time you register it. The year after I first moved to Florida, I went to renew my license plates, and they tried to charge me that fee a second time, they had no record of me paying that fee. I got them to 'waive' the fee when I convinced them that I would not have gotten plates and registration without paying it. Rather annoying. Got other stories too.
