Computer Locking Up

Post by Blazegno »

Every now and again my computer will lock up (only during EQ). The screen just freezes and will not let me do anything. I try cntrl/alt/delt to get to task manager and get only a black screen. Only resolution has been to reboot.
Macine:
MB: EVGA nForce 680i SLI
Processor: Intel core2duo E6750
Video: Geforce 9600 GSO x2 (SLI enabled)
OS: Vista 32

All drivers are up to date.

Any suggestions?

Start with this:

http://www.memtest.org/

Run it overnight, see if you have any RAM errors.

I doubt it due to your description, but it's an easy thing to check.

is there a disc with ur mainboard to check voltage from power suply and the check memory voltage, cpu heat and stuff ?
there a tool to most mainboards

look at the memory mudules and see what voltage it needs and check if its correct set
most newer memory need 2.1V or more and older mainboard sets only 1.8V

Mine did that until I noticed a gigantic chunk of dust on the fan.

My suggestion would be similar to Eggy's. Make sure the fans on your graphics card don't have dust in them.
You could also try running with the side of the case open and blowing a portable fan into the case to see if it's a heat issue.

I have updated all software and thorooughly cleaned the entire machine. It worked well all week and through a few marathon seesions Friday/Saturday. About 20 minutes into today and it locked up.

I checked the problems/solutions page and found the message: Address a problem with NVIDIA Graphics Driver.

I checked for driver updates and was told I am using the best driver is already installed

Current:
NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO
Driver Date: 3/27/09
Version: 7.15.11.8250
