This was on the news here yesterday (along with a repatriation ceremony for 4 soliders). It upset so many people that the government requested an apology from Fox News. The Comic Strip (a comedy club) also cancelled an appearance by Doug Benson.

I agree it does not likely represent the American view. It however does feed the propaganda machine (not to mention there is nothing funny about it). It also was not mentioned one bit in the US news. Our TV is regulated (http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/home-accueil.htm), you cannot just make statements at random without getting complaints. Too many complaints, and they will rip up your brocasting license.

I only posted it, for you would not likely hear about it given the US News is hit an miss when it comes to reporting World News.

Also funny you would mention Al-Jazeera. The CRTC has imposed limits on the licence that requires cable companies carrying this channel to ensure that no abusive material is aired.

For the record I strongly oppose war, at the same time I think it is not appropriate to belitttle the efforts of those that put their life on the line. This all feeds back into the view others have of you regardless if it's fair to do so or not.

Which is rather ironic, that people who believe in a free press would instead turn to a state press instead ... another nation's state press. Granted most any nation's aspect on world news will be biased, but it seems to me America's is more bias than average. It may be because we're quicker to judge and slower to understand.

I heard about that yesterday morning. It was all over the news. London, Toronto, UK, New York Times all pick it up and blasted fox news.

I was like. whoa. Even media got troll newscasters heh.

all humor aside, I think they're idiots for picking on canada. While they are usually a quiet country (which I find it as a good thing) the fact that came out and did something on our behalf spoke volumes. How dare those newcasters attack them after they stood with us. fox news is no better then terrorists in my opinion.

You have a CRTC equal .. I looked it up. Its called the Federal Communications Commission (FCC):

Established by the Communications Act of 1934. Charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. Can levy fines and revoke licences of stations that break broadcast standards.

If your point is americans are shokingly ignorant of news outside the US - I must agree
If your point is certain types of speech - profanity, pornography, shouting fire in a crowded theater
can be restricted - I agree

If your point is certain political views should be restricted to only the good ones - then I must diasgree. The question is who determines which ones are good or bad. It will invariably fall within what the censor feels is right or wrong. That is why multiple points of view are necessary. You dont have to protect the points of view that dont offend anyone

I watched the Pres elections on BBC last Nov, couldnt stand watching it on US TV channels.

I am not a fan of the news lately, too shallow, too few facts, too opinionated, and too many commentators acting angry.

That Fox news clip is offensive. When it comes to humor, nothing is out of bounds, but this was not humor, nor does it even appear to be a failed attempt at humor. It is just mean and people should be angry.

The miltary (US or Canada), is not off limits to critical reporting, or being made fun of, but there needs to be some taste whenever reporting on the people in the military making the sacrifices they do.
