running 2 eq accts on one computer

Post by yanti »

does anyone do this? if so, how do you set it up?
i just got a new comp with windows vista, with 2 gb ram.

i'm really computer illiterate so if you could walk me through it like i'm a 2 year old, i'd appreciate it.

thanks all :)

well. Here's the yucky part about dualboxing.

You have to create two different Everquest folders. One for one account, other for other account.

So you can have like Everquest folder and EverquestDuo or Everquest2 or Yanti2, whatever.

Once you have two everquest folders setup and installed. There you go. Now you can run two accounts.

That's the easy part. You most likely will have to troubleshoot all kinds of problems because of Vista and I'm assuming you have duo core processors, which is another set of problems.

i only have one everquest folder and i run 2 accts on one computer.

i just click on the 2nd patcher just as the first one switches over to the SOE license agreement.

enter both your accts and (if like me you have 2 monitors) drag one over to side monitor, or just alt/tab between the accts.

i don't know how vista messes with this though, i use winxp.

When I 4 box I am doing it on 2 computers and 2 monitors. I have found that 2 GIG of memory is the minimum to efffectively run 2 EQ at the same time. I use XP so I dont know if there are VISTA issues...

I have only one folder of EQ and run from both. Just log into the other account. You have to wait for the patcher to get to the EULA screen to finish loading up then you can start the second EQ window.

Sometimes there are memory issues if you have other stuff running in the background. On my main computer I turn off all the programs I can (Spyware, AOL, anti virus, etc) and run 2 EQ with the music program. There are unique issues that pop up sometimes when I am 2 boxing. For example, randomly the window I have running blanks out my UI entirely except for letters (similar to west bug except I still see all the letters and numbers of my UI).

2 Boxing on one machine is fairly easy depending on class, and once you master that, 4 boxing isnt much more difficult with the right hotkey setup. I assume if you have that G15 keyboard you can do all kind of cool stuff.

As a side note, if you see me 4 boxing and are LFG, send a tell. I dont see a lot of guildchat because of the chaos of 4 toons and spam from combat.

I have temporarily run a second account. Since I already am in game when I find out I would like a second toon on usually for a buff or rez, I simply window out and start eq over again and put in the station name and password. I tried a few times to actually 2 box, but since the second account is not mine, I dread that toon dying or some other bad thing befall it. If I ever find a second account I could afford, I might try it more frequently.

there was a point i was constantly 2 boxing on my 1 machine.. the only thing you have to do is let the patcher run.. once you get to the eula, you can run the 2nd patcher, just like peill said.. i will admit, my dual monitors is extremely handy and was a great investment.. it's kinda like the "once you go black, you never go back" saying, "once you dual screen, you never go back" it's really quite amazing how well it works.. you just have to have the ram and the video card to be able to do it.. i ran vista home premium for about 2 months while i was 2 boxing on my machine (not to brag because i know peeps have better, but i've got: a 3.0 pentium d with 4 gig 5300 ddr2 and a nvidia geforce 7900gt 256mb) and vista was nice for about 3-4 weeks then it started to just have annoyances.. went back to xp just last week after i just couldn't take it anymore, lol.. sorry for the vista rant.. but back to the issue, 2 boxing is great and really super easy.. it's so much more effective on one machine imho.. have fun!! :D

PS: another thing that you have to do is you have to launch your first account and change it from full screen to windowed mode, this will allow you to alt tab back and forth..

I run 2 accts 1 PC.

1 folder/install of EQ, I just minimize and kick off the patcher again. Then Log in Bil and off we go. With the machine I have I can zone both at the same time np. This is vid card and ram dependant though.

Makes it easier for me to Alt-Tab and have hotkeys all on 1 PC. Tried the 2 PC thing and was too much for me to move my hands.

It did take me a bit to get used to it, but now I feel like I'm slacking when I play one. Some raids though totally fry my brain doing two though, just depends on the day. :)

i'm using wineq2 from Lavish Software.

The light version is free. I use the subscription version. I mostly use it to get the picture-in-picture mode for my 2box setup. It has lots of other nice options too.
