EQ downloads
Hey everybody!!
I had a quick question, if you don't have EQ downloaded on a new computer but you have previously bought all the game discs etc. is there a way to download everquest client from the internet so you dont have to buy the discs again. This may be a newb question but I cant find where to download it. Thanks in advance!

Es heisst, dass wenn man einer Klinge einen Namen gibt dann gibt man ihr auch eine Seele, und dass diese Seele mit jedem vergossenem Tropfen Blut und jedem ausgeloeschten Leben maechtiger und finsterer wird.

COPY PAST WOKS
just save all the files from your EQ directoy to a DVD or to an external HDD or move the HDD from your old computer into your new computer to c:\Games\Everquest\
EQ does not need to be installed at all. simply moving or copying it to a new location works just fine

Also, for future reference, if you have like 50 bucks to drop on it, you can pick up a 2gb or so usb flash memory drive and put EQ trilogy and all your UI and settings in the directory to it, then just put it on your keychain or somewhere else where you'll be able to find it. Then if you ever get a new computer or have a hard drive crash or whatever you can just plug it in, copy the files to the computer and run the patcher to download the remaining expansions. Voila. Don't even have to mess with UI settings, friend lists, hotkeys or any of that.
Bumping since I got a new computer and now I can't even get the patcher to "download to file". Spent most the night sunday trying to resolve this. Guess with Vista, the *best unspoken adjective* Norton's they so kindly forced into the system, and window's defender, get EQ to run will be the nightmare of all time. Maybe even the Mother of all Nightmares. Anyway, I went to configsys and shut down every thing that was Semantic and anything that looked like it was a protection and even something written in chinese style script, still would not let me get past the first half of the patcher loading. I used properties of the desktop link to run it as system administer. Nor have I figured out the sound, yet. Speakers have a USB plug that appears to be a power source (white stripe on one of the two conductors) and a black pin plug. The documentation for Acer really siphons, with just a 'poster' showing every possible combination of any available device, then sort of 'blends' them to the back of the computer, which does not look like what I have anyway. Anyway black plug I stuck in black hole, and I managed to find Vista called that the back speaker out port, seems that should be what I would want, but still no sound on test speaker. (Yes I did push the on button and have turnable knob center of available volume and computer volume is set for 67%).
Course copying the game from one computer to the other might get the game on the computer, I doubt it will run until I figure out how to get Vista, Norton's, Defender, and whatever else could be possibly stopping EQ to run some files.
As Vista soon becomes to be the operating system non computer whizs will be using, perhaps we need to begin a thread on how to get this game to work in that environment.

Make sure to check the "Run this program in compatability mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2) as well as "Run this program as an administrator" in the compatibility tab.

yes, forgot to mention I did that also. otherwise it was looking for a file similar in name to d3drm.dll. Once I did compatible to xp service pack 2, it begins the patcher, gets about half way through, stops for 30 secs or so, then Vista says can not download to file.

Hey Laleldil, get my phonenumber from my wife and give me a call. I can make a trip to your house probably Monday night if you would like and get you running. I just got a new comp for my bro with Windows Vista and got all the same problems. After about 6 hours of playing with stuff I did finally figure it all out and EQ is running amazing on it now. Would be easier for me to set it up in person for you, but if you would like I can try to talk you through how to get it running. Believe it or not, it isnt a Nortons problem. It just lies in how Vista works with its security settings. Will take about 2 minutes of adjustments and you will be cruising at lightspeed =).

Always choose Run as administrator from the link, (Right Click, and choose that) even after you've checked those two options. It seems that Vista cannot remember that you want it ran in admin mode. Also you have to run dxwebsetup.exe first from Microsoft web installer. Here is the link :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx
DirectX 10 and 9.0x can co-exist.
Just run it, you'll be fine...

Well, hell!
That is the short mild version of my success so far.
Compressed Sony folder and it is 4.09 gig, Vista says it is empty. Yea! 2hours or so getting nothing transferred according to Vista even though it displays there is over 4 gig.
Try to load sbcyahoo, the T1 supplier, and that wont finish either. Woohoo am I having fun!
Go to Windows Vista, download their crap to look into my computer. Later as I try to email them, it asks for the registration number and even offers to look for it. Result: Not in the correct format. Ah Duh, I have no software disk so no printed number to type in.
Vista is a bunch of SHIT! Pardon the expression, but this is ridiculous!
And every couple of minutes I get the notice windows has blocked some startup programs. Wanna look at them click the bubble. I click and don't see crap!

The ZIP file format doesnt work with collections over 4GB (32bits) in size unfortunately. RAR will work though.
I always just copy/paste an EQ directory from a working system to my new machine using the local LAN. It will only take a few minutes with a 100BT or GigE connection.

Ok, latest update:
SBC Yahoo! DSL does not yet have a Vista compatible program. Talking with the tech, they feel it wil not be ready until the end of March.
However the old computer has the DSL since it is XP. Still further a however, the old computer is really set up screwy and not sure how well I will be able to play the game in the positions I will be in. Might give it a shot, but no guarantees I can effectively heal on a raid.
Patience. If you died it was because I sucked even worse then normal.

How does your DSL modem connect to your computer? Is it using USB or something? If it has a networking port, it's highly recommend you connect a router (with NAT $50) between the modem and your computers. That way, both of you systems can be online simultaneously and will also be able to see each other on your local network.
Here's an example, using a PC and an X-box.
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/conne ... /intro.htm
Connected this way, you shouldn't need any special software from your phone company, it's all built in to both XP and Vista.
What does the DSL software supposedly do? Most of that crap just sets your home page to point to their "value add" home page or something equally worthless like adding a different title to your browser window.
I've been using cable internet for 10 years and never once installed any of their software packages.
