Green Lantern is a "chosen" human with a ring that draws its power from the mystical green lantern that is powered by the collective alien race council. (think sorta like good version very old and wise ancient rathe council channelling their power into that one object)
The weakness is that anything yellow make the green lantern's power null and void. So like if he try to contain our yellow sun from going supernova. he can't. But a red sun. sure why not.
